Sandy is the author of the book, Words Whispered in Water, which exposes the federal government's cover-up of the engineering mistakes that led to the devastating flooding of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

Sandy also shares her journey founding the nonprofit organization Levees.org to spread awareness and advocate for safer levees in the United States.

On a side note, I spent several days in 2006 in New Orleans helping to rebuild homes. The devastation I saw was unlike anything I had ever seen. Here are a few photos from my time there.
